ONLINE AD PIE CONTINUES TO INCREASE

Tuesday, October 13th, 2009

Online ad dollars predicted to reach 15% of the advertising pie (Total pie, nearly $65 billion).  WPP and GroupM say that search advertising will comprise 43% of all Internet advertising by next year. Although growing, online ad spending still lacks considering the amount of time consumers spend with the medium.

Also worth noting…Mobile advertising in 2010 is predicted to reach 6% of the total online ad spend, or $3.3 billion, a 19% rise from this year.

‘GOOGLE WAVE,’ REVOLUTIONIZING COMMUNICATION?

Sunday, October 11th, 2009

Have you heard about it yet–the new product by Google called, ”Wave?”  If you haven’t, you will.  While “Wave” is still in development, it’s possible that its evolution could revolutionize the way we communicate.  Simply put, imagine e-mail on steroids.

Google has communicated what Wave is by breaking it into three simple parts:

  • A wave is equal parts conversation and document. People can communicate and work together with richly formatted text, photos, videos, maps, and more.
  • A wave is shared. Any participant can reply anywhere in the message, edit the content and add participants at any point in the process. Then playback lets anyone rewind the wave to see who said what and when.
  • A wave is live. With live transmission as you type, participants on a wave can have faster conversations, see edits and interact with extensions in real-time.

‘SEARCH’ IS EVOLVING…GETTING SMARTER

Thursday, October 8th, 2009

Over the past decade Starbucks has help evolve the coffee business and opened the doors for many Mom & Pop type places to thrive. Today, the likes of Google and Yahoo are doing the same with ’search.’ The days of people typing a couple of words into a search box and hoping for the best are numbered. Companies big and small are moving things forward, experimenting with searches based on complex sentences, images and audio, mashing up mobile search with location data, and aiming to make results more useful than the traditional list of blue links.

One approach is to show results in a more visual style. Viewzi, for example, has a number of options, including viewing results from Flickr as a photo thumbnail cloud; viewing thumbnails of web pages found by Google, Ask, Yahoo and Live Search on one page; and viewing news results from Google News in the style of a newspaper front page. Seachme, also presents its results as a series of web screenshots, mimicking the iTunes Cover Flow look.

SHUBIC NARROWS FOCUS—CONSOLIDATES SERVICES TO WEB DEVELOPMENT AND ONLINE MARKETING

Monday, October 5th, 2009

Gold Canyon, ARIZONA—Mike Shubic – Your Marketing Coach, is a long-time marketer who has been offering freelance marketing services for the past four years has recently decided to narrow his focus to web development and online marketing services.

“I have always had a passion for the web, because from a marketing point of view it has the capacity to give businesses the greatest bang-for-the-buck of any other marketing option.  Plus, the web is the most trackable medium out there, which from a marketing perspective is really the “Holy Grail.”  For the past couple of years 90% of my business has been interactive related, so it just made sense to start focusing my own marketing efforts toward that area,” says Mike Shubic, now of Shubic Web Design.

Mr. Shubic began his interactive career at the Arizona Republic in the mid-90s, where he was on the steering committee that formed the states’ largest website, AZCentral.com.  He also worked for the former Tempe-based cutting-edge internet browser company, NeoPlanet.

Shubic has set himself apart from other web designers or developers because he looks at the web from a marketing perspective, which he says is a communications tool well before it’s a technical project. Mr. Shubic goes on to say that all too often websites are either over or under designed, with no real thought to strategy, which is a result of narrowly focused objectives or capabilities.  The overall goal of a website is to communicate a value proposition, if the person or company building a website doesn’t have a firm understanding of marketing, this can often become a hindrance for their client.

Mr. Shubic plans to launch his new www.ShubicWebDesign.com website in mid-October.  In addition, there will be a new Blog that will give readers tips, tools and news on interactive related topics.

About Mike Shubic: Mike Shubic is a seventeen-year marketing veteran who has work for such notable companies as The Arizona Republic, Cold Stone Creamery, NeoPlanet and Nautical Enterprises. Mr. Shubic has been involved with the web since the early 90s and has been a freelance marketer for over four years offering his services to an array of different types of industries.  Mr. Shubic has written a number of interactive and marketing related articles for both print and online and maintains a Blog of useful tips, tools and news on the interactive subject. Mr. Shubic can be reached by calling 480-983-3100 or by e-mail at Mike @ ShubicWebDesign.com

BEWARE OF NEW TROJAN THAT CAN INFILTRATE YOUR BANK ACCOUNT

Friday, October 2nd, 2009

There is a new Trojan Horse that can access your bank account and take small sums of money right from under your nose.  CNET reports that potential victims get their computers infected either by opening an e-mail and clicking on a link to a Website created to distribute malware, or by visiting affected sites.

In this case the malware, a toolkit called LuckySploit, exploits a known security hole in the browser, and installs the Trojan on the computer. When the Trojan notices the computer user visiting the site of a targeted bank, it springs into action. While the computer user goes about his/her business on the site, the Trojan looks at the available balance and figures out how much money to steal. The Trojan is given a minimum and a maximum range that is below the amount that triggers antifraud systems and to leave a certain percentage in the account.
